This is your opportunity to make a real difference, by assisting the Environmental Services Section in their efforts to protect and enhance the environment of the City of Mississauga.
Under the direction of the Environmental Storm Sewer Coordinator, the successful candidate will assist in
- The enforcement of the City’s Storm Sewer Use By-law, involving spill response, release investigations, monitoring problem areas and interfacing with the City’s residential and business communities.
- Reviewing temporary and permanent stormwater discharge applications, reviewing reports
- Reviewing CCTV footage of stormwater mains, identifying sanitary/stormwater cross connection
- Completing the City’s Outfall Monitoring Program, an important tool in evaluating Stormwater quality across the City.
- Addressing inquiries regarding storm sewer connection connections along with any violations of the Storm Sewer Use By-Law
- Other duties may include assisting with the implementation of environmental/educational outreach programs and promoting water quality at environmental events; researching various environmental issues and initiatives; liaising with other City Departments, other levels of government and outside agencies; recommending solutions and/or changes required to the City’s standards and policies; and performing other related duties as assigned.
- Must be enrolled in an Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science Program, or related engineering/applied science program, preferably at the intermediate or senior level.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer software packages and be familiar with the Windows environment, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- At least a valid class “G2” Ontario driver’s licence and an excellent driving record.
- The successful candidate will be required to independently manage their time, keeping tasks well organized, while being an important member of our team environment.
- This position is a hybrid model (3 days in office/or field-based tasks, 2 days work from home). Therefore, the successful candidates should be comfortable and proficient for all 3 environments.
Hourly Rate/Salary: 19.80 - 23.53
