Reporting to the Molecular Science Director, we are seeking a full-time, contract (1 year) Research Assistant, who will provide support primarily to the Director, but also to the Molecular Science department to ensure smooth and effective operation. This position is aimed at supporting clinical and genetic data collection, processing and data analysis for advancing pharmacogenetic-based and personalized health treatment strategies. The Research Assistant will collaborate with scientists and trainees on the team in utilizing pharmacogenetic-related data collected from prior studies. The Research Assistant will further support the Director and team in the execution of this project through the preparation of presentations and maintaining databases, data for analysis, tables and figures, manuscripts, as well as conducting literature searches.

The candidate must be a self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The successful candidate will have excellent capacity for self-directed learning/working, and require minimal supervision. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

The successful candidate will have completed Grade 12 and/or special courses. Post-Secondary Certificate or College Diploma in a computer science or related discipline, and relevant research experience will be an asset. Superior interpersonal, planning, time management, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills are required. The candidate must be able to multi-task under pressure, deal with conflicting priorities, and coordinate projects to tight deadlines, with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. In this role, the candidate must be willing to take initiative, and have the ability to prioritize work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision. Advanced computer skills with the R-coding environment, SPSS as well as the Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) are preferred. Proficiency in Snakemake, nextflow or a similar program for pipeline automation and knowledge of sequencing tools (ex. PLINK, samtools, vcftools); GitHub; SQL and/or REDCap database design) are considered assets. The ability to work with team members and stakeholders of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language are assets.
