The Complex Care and Recovery Program is currently seeking a part-time, temporary (12 months) Registered Practical Nurse to work on a Forensic General Unit B (FGUB). As a member of an inter-professional team, you will be expected to ensure safety and security of the client care environment, and to practice in accordance with College of Nurses of Ontario professional standards, CAMH Policies and Procedures, and the CAMH Practice Model of Care. Using a primary nursing model, you will collaborate with the primary nurse to perform ongoing assessments, develop, implement and evaluate the interprofessional plan of client care for clients who may be suffering from mental illness or addiction issues and who are detained under the jurisdiction of the Ontario Review Board (ORB). As a member of a interprofessional team, the RPN will be responsible for working with patients from diverse backgrounds, contributing to program development; and provide education support and supervision to students. You will have sound knowledge of clinical and risk management services to adults under the jurisdiction of the ORB. You will develop, implement and monitor risk management plans and ensure compliance with the ORB disposition. As an RPN your skills include the ability to make behavioural observations, mental status and physical assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, as well as ongoing documentation and communication with other team members. You will support and contribute to a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position involves some eight and 12 hour shift rotations and weekend work. This position is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

You must be registered in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR). The candidate must have medication administration certification or completion of an RPN education preparation program that includes medication administration. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a strong knowledge of psychiatric nursing, addiction issues and risk assessments. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Psychiatric nursing experience with individuals with mental illness and/or addictions is required. You will have an understanding of how to develop and implement forensic risk assessment plans and a fundamental understanding of the forensic legal and health systems. The successful candidate will be a self-directed team player who is highly organized and has the communication and interpersonal skills that enable them to work within a inter-disciplinary collaborative team environment. Experience working with individuals from diverse ethno cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is also required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) and /or proficiency in a second language is also considered an asset.
