The Complex Care & Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Clozapine and Metabolic Registered Nurse to work in the Medication and Psychological Psychosis Service (MAPPS).The MAPPS program provides rapid outpatient medication consultation including the assessment of medication side effects, and client symptom response. As an RN within this consultation service, you will function in the capacity of a Clozapine Clinic Coordinator, a core member of the Clozapine Service team, working to coordinate initiation of Clozapine therapy, outcome assessments and data management. In addition, you will work with other physicians, pharmacies and labs to initiate Clozapine for new clients, liaise with CSAN, monitor lab work, enter results in CSAN database, while providing teaching and support to clients and families to help ensure continued treatment adherence. As an RN within this consultation service, you will also have the opportunity to function as Metabolic Clinic Coordinator, where you will focus on the management of metabolic conditions such as weight gain, metabolic syndrome, dyslipidemia, and pre-diabetes in clients with mental illness. You will participate in the Integrated Care Pathway, triage referrals, provide metabolic monitoring, health teaching and will support various research and wellness initiatives within the program.

As a member of an interprofessional team, you will provide client-centred mental health and general nursing care and ensure security, safety, while maintaining the CNO standards of nursing practice. You will perform and coordinate assessments, recruit research subjects, administer instruments, perform follow-up assessments and assist in the coordination of the MAPPS service. You will liaise with other services in the Complex Mental Illness Program and with community agencies to facilitate care for clients. You will work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to service development; provide education support and supervision to students and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, monitoring patient’s response to pharmaceutical and care interventions, documentation and ongoing communication among the treatment teams and service providers. You will have sound knowledge of crisis intervention, pharmacological treatments, severe and persistent mental illness and schizophrenia. Your strengths include an ability to perform assessments, and to develop, implement and evaluate Clozapine and Metabolic service plans within an established framework of defined treatments and timelines. This position is located on the second floor of 1051 Queen Street Building.

You must be registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario and possess a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate. You will have two years’ recent mental health nursing experience. Experience within an outpatient setting is an asset and a working knowledge of clozapine a benefit. Preference will be given to candidates who possess, or are currently pursuing a BScN and/or CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop the Nurse-Client relationship and work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem solving skills are required. You have demonstrated ability to intervene effectively in clinical situations requiring the management of disturbed behaviour. Previous experience in research and education is required. The ability to work with clients of diverse cultural and social backgrounds is necessary. Computer literacy is required. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
