The Clinical Care Program is currently recruiting a full-time, temporary (6 months) Counsellor/Therapist 2 to work in the Crisis Critical Care Treatment Units. Reporting to the manager, the successful candidate will have knowledge of crisis intervention, group treatment modalities and mental health/substance use assessment and treatment. You will identify and address psychosocial issues in both individual and group sessions. You will function as part of an interprofessional team, and will act as a resource person and deliver relevant services to clients, their families and others.
You will participate in the assessment and treatment process, and will engage clients in a discharge planning process through individual and group sessions. As part of the treatment and discharge process, you will provide supportive counselling to patients and their families. This position offers the opportunity to lead existing groups, as well as collaboratively develop new group programming. The incumbent will also participate in: continuous quality improvement initiatives; the research and educational activities of the program; program development; and capacity-building activities. Other related duties may be assigned as required. You will be supported in providing supervision for masters level students. You will support and contribute to a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. Given the focus of group therapy, this position will offer ample opportunities for participating in formal and informal training and education. This position is currently located at the Queen Street Site.
The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in psychology, social work or occupational therapy combined with a preferred3 years clinical experience in the provision of mental health and/or addictions treatment. Experience on an inpatient unit is an asset. As a registered member in good standing with a regulated health care discipline, the candidate must show proof of registration with the respective College (e.g. College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO), or College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO).Note: For Registered Psychotherapist incumbents with Qualifying or not yet in independent practice status who are required to practice with clinical supervision, CAMH, in its discretion, will pre-arrange this formal supervisory relationship with the clinical program as a condition of hire, based on capacity. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in acute care of clients with a range of psychiatric diagnosis, sound knowledge of DSM-IV diagnoses, crisis intervention theory and techniques, experience in providing instrumental assistance to clients, and experience in facilitating psycho-educational/supportive counselling and groups. Experience with motivational interviewing, CBT and DBT modalities are an asset. Demonstrated ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds is necessary. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to work within the interprofessional teams and to engage with clients and family members. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced interprofessional clinical environment are essential. You will also be able to meet deadlines, and have excellent computer skills and knowledge of technology to enhance communication and learning. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
