The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada’s leading addictions and mental health teaching hospital. As CAMH’s Legal Counsel (Corporate/Commercial), you will provide legal support to CAMH‘s core operations, external partnerships and special projects, supporting CAMH’s role as a leader in mental health and addictions care in Canada.

CAMH is currently seeking a full time, permanent Corporate/Commercial Legal Counsel. In this role, you will be part of a dynamic legal team providing legal and risk management advice to CAMH’s leadership, clinicians and staff, while advancing corporate goals and initiatives. You will report to CAMH’s Director, Corporate Legal Services and provide legal services in areas including, but not limited to, corporate/commercial law, leasing, procurement, privacy law, intellectual property law, health law, hospital governance and legislative compliance. Your day-to-day tasks may include: interpreting, negotiating and drafting commercial agreements, providing legal and strategic advice to CAMH stakeholders, supporting corporate and governance functions, supervising law students and sitting on committees and working groups.

Our ideal candidate is a solutions-oriented lawyer focused on proactively identifying and mitigating risk, advancing day-to-day work in the context of CAMH’s strategic goals, and collaborating effectively with CAMH’s internal stakeholders, external partners, peer hospital counsel, and external legal counsel.

Minimum Requirements
  • You must possess a Law degree (LLB or JD) and you must be a lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO)
  • You must have at least 3 years of post-call experience in private practice, in-house, or a combination thereof
  • Experience working within a hospital or broader healthcare sector organization is an asset
  • You should have experience with drafting and negotiating corporate/commercial contracts (service agreements, licensing agreements, SAAS agreements etc.)
  • Strong preference will be given to lawyers who have expertise in the areas of AI, Privacy, IT, and/or Public Procurement
  • You are a service-oriented lawyer with strong conceptual thinking and practical decision-making skills
  • You are able to assess risk in context and prioritize mitigation strategies accordingly
  • You are capable of managing a high volume of competing priorities appropriately and effectively
  • You are able to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
  • Your communication skills must be excellent (oral and written) and you must have strong interpersonal, negotiation and presentation skills
  • Excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy are essential to this role

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary is competitive and based on experience, with a hiring range of $120,472.10 - $150,590.12 per year.
  • Employees in this role may progress within the full pay range of $120,472.10 - $180,708.14 per year
