Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario (YWHO, www.youthhubs.ca) is a network of 32, Integrated Youth Services (IYS) hub networks that currently operate in 40 communities, where young people ages 12 to 25 years have walk-in access to youth-centered, community-based mental health and wellness services.
YWHO engages youth, family members, service providers, and other partners through a co-creation process, enhancing the relevance, acceptability, and youth friendliness of services. The hubs are provincially consistent in core features and locally led and adapted to offer and connect to a range of evidence-based services-mental health care, substance use health services, primary care, education, employment, housing, peer support, family support and care navigation-in youth-friendly spaces. Outcomes are rigorously evaluated within and across hubs, focusing on positive outcomes in areas of wellness important to youth and their families.
Position Description
Youth Wellness Hubs Ontario Provincial Office (YWHO PO) is seeking a full-time, contract (1 year) Education Specialist to support the design, development and implementation of knowledge products related to the YWHO Model inclusive of connected initiatives and pilots which can include resources, tools, templates, and e-learning products (online courses and simulation-based learning for health professionals).
Reporting to the Manager Site Implementation, the Education Specialist will work across multiple teams, including Implementation, Knowledge Mobilization, Equity& Engagement, and Evaluation at the YWHO Provincial Office and work closely with CAMH education, youth, family members, YWHO hub staff and service delivery partners, subject matter experts, healthcare professionals and clinical teams, vendors, and other internal and external partners.The Education Specialist will assess and identify the training needs of intended learners, apply best practices in instructional design and curriculum development to create tailored interactive courses and e-learning programs as well as support the creation of user guides, web-based resources, quick reference guides, job aids and other learning and support materials, as needed.
The Education Specialist will apply adult education principles, learning theories and instructional design models, as well as the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility (EDIA) to the development of education and training. The successful candidate will create online e-learning programs and engaging learning activities that include branching scenarios, case studies, and gamification, and virtual simulation to enhance the learning process and prepare YWHO Hub Network staff to build knowledge and implement the YWHO Model, support the Youth Wellness Team and other connected health care professionals for clinical practice and continuous skill building. They will work with the Implementation team and all partners to create, review and update the knowledge products to support the implementation of the YWHO Model. They will work with the Evaluation team to ensure all activities are evaluated for impact and continuous improvement. This role will be connected closely with the Education team at CAMH through regular collaboration ensuring alignment across shared goals and initiatives. The successful candidate will be able to manage multiple aspects of work simultaneously, and work independently, as well as with a diverse team. The Education Specialist will keep up with best practices, innovations, research, theories, technologies, and trends in the education field. The candidate will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at 80 Workman Way in Toronto.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Educational Technology or a health related discipline along with post-secondary certification in Education, Instructional Design or Education Technology with a minimum of three (3) years of experience designing learning programs for adult learners. Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning theories, instructional design models, curriculum development, and current and emerging learning technologies in development of e-learning programming. Knowledge of Ontario’s mental health and substance use system/services for youth is required. The candidate will have demonstrated skills in knowledge mobilization, including resource development, training and event planning, and project coordination. Demonstrated ability to search, identify, and synthesize relevant evidence is required. Demonstrated ability to facilitate co-design processes for resource development with a diversity of partners including service providers, researchers, decision-makers, funders and youth and family advisors. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the following areas, with an emphasis on e-learning and e-learning technology is also required: inter-professional collaboration, simulation, adult education, the educational needs of health professionals and other professional staff in addiction and mental health, delivery of educational programming, youth and family education, research and evaluation. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with learning management systems such as Noverant, Moodle and Software as a Service platforms, eLearning course authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, and web conferencing software such as WebEx or Zoom is required. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility is required. Familiarity with accreditation requirements for governing bodies of health care professionals. Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written), creative problem-solving and organizational skills are required. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a self-directed manner, as well as collaboratively in a team setting is required. The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to and manage changing priorities is required. Bilingualism (French/English) is considered an asset.
