About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Wapiti Operator for our West Kaybob Operations facility at Valhalla.

This intermediate-level position entails working independently with minimal supervision, focusing on optimizing wells, associated equipment, pipelines, facilities, and/or plant operations in a safe and efficient manner. The role involves providing direction to contractors in the area, managing call-outs independently, and identifying opportunities to reduce callouts while achieving established objectives within budgets and in compliance with company policies and government regulations.

The working area for this role will be Wapiti oil battery and associated field, strictly managing pumping and flowing oil wells and treating of oil for sales quality product to be shipped through Pembina system. Additionally, solution gas compression sales to CNRL Wapiti system will be part of the responsibilities. The ideal candidate should be a highly motivated self-starter willing to stay engaged and learn from other workers while maintaining respectful communication with colleagues and leaders.

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift rotation (8 days on, 6 days off, 10-hour days)

  • This position is based out of our West Kaybob Operations facility and would require the successful candidate to reside close to this area

  • This is a unionized role

What you’ll do:

  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize wells, compression systems, pipelines, and related facilities to ensure safe and efficient performance.

  • Enhance production and equipment uptime while proactively identifying cost-saving and improvement opportunities.

  • Lead safe work practices by conducting hazard assessments, initiating Safe Work Permits, and demonstrating strong safety leadership.

  • Independently manage call-outs, troubleshoot issues including compression systems, and identify ways to reduce future call-outs.

  • Supervise contractors and ensure flawless execution of maintenance, support with new well/facility start-ups, and other operational activities.

  • Support compliance with corporate policies, government regulations, and safety programs, including ERP and Oil Spill Exercise Training.

  • Accurately input downtime coding and production data, ensuring timeliness and precision in reporting and documentation.

  • Utilize systems like IOC to drive operational efficiency and contribute to planning, peer reviews, and continuous improvement efforts.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Valid class 5 drivers license with a current drivers abstract.

  • Grade 12 education is preferred

  • Minimum 5 years experience (Level 3)

  • Oil and gas treating and compression experience is an asset.

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
