About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Director of Tax Risk Management & Litigation, the US Tax Manager will comprehensively manage the U.S. Income Tax function for Cenovus.

As a key member of the tax team, this incumbent will collaborate with other specialties in the tax leadership team and have accountability to deliver quarterly and annual tax provisions as well as monthly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-range plans.

The successful candidate will also provide analysis and research on US federal and state income tax issues to support reporting, compliance, tax audit and tax planning. This position is best suited for someone that has solid previous experience in US tax accounting and tax compliance.

This position can be located in Calgary, AB, Houston, TX, or Dublin, OH depending on the candidate.

What you’ll do:

  • Review/prepare consolidated U.S. tax budgeting and forecasts.

  • Review/prepare quarterly and annual tax disclosures for financial statements and internal reporting.

  • Manage the US federal and state corporate and partnership income tax returns, elections, withholding tax compliance and other necessary tax filings.

  • Review/prepare annual SOX narrative updates and coordinate with external auditors.

  • Ensure compliance with SOX controls.

  • Lead IRS/state tax audits.

  • Collaborate with the company’s downstream business functions to identify and resolve income tax issues.

  • Review/prepare U.S. E&P calculations and collaborate with Canadian tax experts on various cross-border tax matters.

  • Assist with special projects and tax planning initiatives.

  • Provide information and support to other functions in the Finance Department

  • Work in a fast paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Identify, research, and document federal and state tax issues.

Who you are:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Minimum 10 years of US corporate income tax work experience.

  • A Bachelors’ degree in finance or accounting, and completion of a recognized accounting designation.

  • A Masters or US Tax is considered an asset.

  • Familiarity with OneSource US tax preparation software.

  • Working knowledge of SAP (running GL details, financial information, etc.).

  • Experience with OneSource Tax Provision software would be considered an asset.
