About this opportunity:
As a Staff Production Engineer, you’ll play a key role in managing Cenovus’ Conventional Heavy Oil (CHO) subsurface assets to deliver highly profitable oil production within facility, executional, and budgetary constraints. Leveraging industry-leading technology, you’ll optimize well performance, capture and apply learnings from development teams and legacy assets, and ensure alignment on value-add opportunities. Beyond day-to-day responsibilities, you’ll lead strategic projects and act as a subject matter expert (SME), identifying gaps and driving initiatives that support the broader CHO team. This is an opportunity to combine technical expertise, innovation, and leadership to make a significant impact on operational success.
What you’ll do:
Optimize operations and production for conventional heavy oil wells using advanced technology and data-driven strategies.
Design and select pump systems and completions for existing and new wells.
Collaborate with Completions, Well Servicing, Operations, Process Engineering, Reservoir Engineering, and Geology to identify and execute value-add opportunities.
Lead or support field trials and evaluate new technologies to enhance asset performance.
Integrate learnings from trials into operational and development plans.
Drive value through project work and SME responsibilities, delivering on complex strategic initiatives.
Provide informal coaching and mentorship to support team growth and foster a collaborative, high-performance culture.
Promote innovation and continuous improvement aligned with Cenovus values.
Who you are:
Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:
Legally authorized to work in Canada
Hold a degree or diploma in Engineering and have 15+ years of experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
Professional Engineer designation with APEGA and/or APEGS is considered an asset.
Strong working knowledge of Conventional Heavy Oil operations, completions design, and/or facilities processes.
