About this opportunity:

Cenovus is looking for a Plant Operator responsible for the operation of a process unit by ensuring activities are focused on safety, production, compliance, etc. and aligned with business needs and priorities. The successful candidate identifies resources, operational challenges and utilizes the right team to resolve.

While this vacancy is currently at Christina Lake, this posting could be used to fill vacancies at any of the three Oil Sands Operations sites (Christina Lake, Foster Creek, or Sunrise, based on business need).

Work Environment:

Foster Creek & Christina Lake

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hrs/day and 6 hrs on the first and last day; 8 days on 6 days off; 42 hrs/week; Tuesday start; 2 week cycle

  • Foster Creek and Christina Lake has full-service camp facilities

  • Depending on your place of residence and your shift rotation, bus and/or air transportation to/from site is offered from designated departure points in select locations

  • Foster Creek is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton

  • Christina Lake is serviced by flight Hubs in Calgary and Edmonton as well as bus transportation to site from La Corey, AB. and Lac La Biche, AB

Sunrise

  • This is a full-time employee position working a shift of 12 hrs/day and 6 hrs on the first and last day; 8 days on 6 days off; 42 hrs/week; Tuesday start; 2 week cycle

  • Sunrise is located approximately 100 km northeast of the City of Fort McMurray and is a fly in/ fly out remote camp-based position.

  • Cenovus will provide transportation to Sunrise from designated hubs out of Calgary and Edmonton

  • At the Sunrise site, employees will be provided comfortable camp accommodations and recreational amenities

What you’ll do:

  • Provides clarity on team's tasks and activities within the organizational strategy

  • Works within budgetary/financial objectives and the procedure used to manage them

  • Monitors process conditions and initiates troubleshooting activities for all abnormal operational events and takes corrective actions as necessary

  • Supports maintenance schedule by preparing equipment for scheduled work

  • Conducts walk-arounds, participates in formal safety audits; LOTO, HSE audits

  • Performs regulatory compliance checks, reporting requirements and completes and review e-Log entries

  • Supports commissioning and start-up of new equipment and processes, as required

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Must have a minimum 2-5 years of operating experience

  • Minimum Fourth Class Power Engineering Certificate, Third Class Power Engineering Certificate considered an asset

We acknowledge the value of transferrable skills and may consider equivalent combinations of experience and education should you not meet a specific requirement.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
