Join Cenovus Energy Inc. as an Emergency Response Technician in Lloydminster, AB, Canada-a role where you will excel in a dynamic and vital environment! This outstanding opportunity allows you to ensure that our emergency response teams are exceptionally trained to handle any crisis with flawless efficiency. You will spearhead continuous improvement initiatives for our emergency response systems at the Cenovus Lloydminster Upgrader and Refinery (CLU and CLR), ensuring that we maintain world-class standards. You will also take responsibility for maintaining and auditing firefighting and emergency response equipment, dedicating 25% of your time to activities at the CLR.

*This position will be part of an on-call rotation as required.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop and facilitate training plans for the emergency response teams ( Fire/ Rescue / Roadblock ) at the CLU and CLR

  • Craft and deliver training programs for the CLU Shift Fire Technicians

  • Ensure effective emergency response with professional application of skills and techniques at emergency scenes

  • Lead fire ground training sessions for both onsite training sessions at the CLU and CLR and offsite training session hosted at Fire Schools with fire school-based instructors, implementing fireground strategies and tactics

  • Maintain various PMs assigned to the emergency response department, including breathing air, firefighting PPE, fire hose testing, fire extinguishers, and fixed fire systems

  • Familiarize and train fire brigade members in the use of Standard Operating Guidelines (SOGs) and the Emergency Response Plan (ERP)

  • Support site audits and inspections, including those conducted by Underwriters and CVE

  • Align with all HS&E requirements while carrying out your responsibilities

  • Mentor Shift Fire Technicians and support their development

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • High school diploma or GED is required

  • Post-Secondary degree or diploma in a related discipline is an asset

  • Professional Fire Fighter NFPA 1001 level 1 & 2 (IFSAC or Pro Board seals)

  • Professional Firefighter NFPA 1081 (IFSAC or Pro Board seals)

  • Professional Firefighter NFPA 472 Operations level

  • Hazmat NFPA 472 Operations level

  • Incident Command Systems 100 & 200 Certified

  • Minimum of 5+ year’s experience in industrial emergency response

  • Possess knowledge in and experience with fire safety standards and work practices in an oil refinery or upgrading environment accompanied by a superior safety attitude

  • Well-developed communication and presentation skills sufficient to convey both factual and conceptual information requiring detailed explanation and interpretation to staff, professionals, and business groups

  • Demonstrate leadership and knowledge transfer to internal and external stakeholders with the goal of creating sustainable emergency preparedness programs

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
