About this opportunity:

The Royalty Accounting team is seeking a Crown Royalty Analyst to support our Oil Sands Royalty (OSR) and Conventional royalty accounting activities. This role is responsible for applying strong analytical and financial skills to ensure accurate royalty calculation, reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, and Regulatory teams to support cost analysis, project applications, and ongoing royalty administration, while contributing to process improvements and developing a strong understanding of OSR and conventional royalty frameworks.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with Marketing to ensure accuracy and completeness of downstream data inputs, including sales, diluent, and transportation

  • Complete monthly and/or quarterly royalty variance analysis, account reconciliations, and monthly royalty accruals

  • Prepare, review, and submit regulatory filings and reports, including Good Faith Estimate (GFE) forms to the Alberta Department of Energy, End of Period Statements (EOPS) for OSR reporting, Cost Analysis and Reporting Enhancement (C.A.R.E.), and other regulatory submissions as required

  • Coordinate, prepare (with internal and external input), and submit OSR project applications

  • Prepare and submit MRF drilling and completion costs to government and support Gas Cost Allowance (GCA) filings

  • Support the Crown Royalty Audit function by providing analysis and supporting documentation, including analysis, coding, and preparation of payment requests for conventional Crown invoices

  • Collaborate with Capital and Operating Accounting teams to ensure accurate royalty payable and expense reporting

  • Research and interpret legislation, guidelines, and industry publications related to OSR and conventional royalty frameworks, and provide insights and analysis to internal stakeholders (Operations, Finance, Treasury, Investor Relations, Regulatory) while supporting ad hoc projects and process improvement initiatives

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting or Finance) or equivalent experience; CPA designation considered an asset

  • Minimum of 5 years of oil and gas accounting experience; experience in crude oil marketing considered an asset

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, SAP, and Power BI

  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines

  • Working knowledge of Qbyte and Databricks considered an asset

  • Understanding of Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) operations, OSR (Oil Sands Royalty) and conventional royalty regulations considered an asset
