The Technical Training Officer, Engineering, Track is responsible for training Engineering employees in Track New Hire Programs, Track Inspection Guidelines, Movement Over Rail Breaks, Continuous Welded Rail, Assistant Track Supervisor (ATS) Training Programs, and Engineering Rules training (both induction and recertification). The incumbent is required to train, mentor, coach and qualify employees on various techniques related to track construction, maintenance, and inspection. The role maintains facility equipment, job aids and scheduled maintenance records.

Main ResponsibilitiesTraining Delivery

·       Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the creation and update of training materials

·       Provide training to employees through classroom instruction, hands-on demonstrations and training exercises

·       Maintain an understanding of how to practically apply skills related to track construction, maintenance, and inspection

·       Maintain an understanding of how to practically apply the Canadian Rail Operating Rules and General Engineering Instructions as they relate to Engineering employees and track protection

·       Foster a culture of Safety Leadership to ensure the safety of all employees, operations, and the public

·       Evaluate trainees’ ability to demonstrate tasks proficiency

·       Administer and grade exams

·       Complete performance and qualifying documents and ensure all training events are captured in the Learning Management System (LMS)

·       Carry out other Engineering-related training as needed

Maintain and Upgrade Facility Equipment

·       Assess functionality of tools and equipment for hands-on training components prior to training

·       Repair all malfunctioning tools and equipment

Develop Comprehensive Training Plan

·       Collaborate with Managers and Senior Managers to determine and identify functional training needs

·       Develop training delivery plan

·       Establish training delivery schedule designed to meet training needs

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary. The role requires minimal travel (25%) to carry out field training and quality audits.

RequirementsExperience

Engineering Track Construction and Maintenance

·       Between 5 to 10 years of Engineering track construction and maintenance experience

o   Experience as an Assistant Track Supervisor

o   Experience as a Track Supervisor*

*Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

·       High School Diploma

·       Qualified as a Track Maintainer or Assistant Track Supervisor

·       Valid Driver’s Licence

·       Any additional education in Engineering or other related field such as Physics or Mathematics*

·       Strong knowledge of CN’s Engineering Track department and field operations

·       Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint

·       Fluently speaks and writes in English

·       Fluently speaks and writes in French*

Knowledge of Systems Applications and Products (SAP) as well as Track Inspection System (TIS)*

·       Proficient in LMS*
