Senior Legal Counsel, Employment
We are looking for Senior Legal Counsel, Employment who will report to the Director, legal services - litigation and employment. This position will be based either at our downtown Montreal, Quebec office or at our Valcourt, Quebec headquarters. In this role, you will be tasked with providing legal support to the global HR function in all aspects of labour and employment law.
YOU’LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:
Support HR business partners on labour and employment law issues around the globe, including labour relations and health and safety.
Handle employment claim and litigation cases and act as a liaison with external legal counsel.
Represent and defend BRP in mediations, audits and investigations.
Conduct internal investigations on employment, ethics and compliance complaints.
Actively participate in employee training to ensure compliance with applicable laws and best practices.
Update and draft workplace policies, employment agreements, notices and other HR-related documents.
Monitor new laws and regulations and communicate their potential impacts to the HR team.
Assist colleagues in the compliance and data privacy team with employment-related issues.
YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALITIES:
6 to 8 years of experience as in-house legal counsel or as a lawyer in a private law firm.
Significant experience in labour and employment law, in both unionized and non-unionized work environments, including health and safety.
Strong strategic skills and the ability to lead complex matters with a clear vision of risks and opportunities.
Curiosity, discipline, autonomy and initiative.
Skilled at managing pressure and excellent at prioritizing work.
Impactful verbal communication skills, the ability to work across every level of an organization and relate effectively to executives and operational teams.
