The successful candidate will supporting the execution of new alternatives investment fund products and deals, and the development and ongoing oversight of existing alternatives investment products. The role sits within the Alternatives business of an established asset manager which is focused on manufacturing and distributing institutional quality Alternatives investment products for the private wealth market.

Alternative Investments | BMO Global Asset Management

The role is geared for a highly motivated self-starter with a deal-maker’s mentality, unafraid to jump on challenges, likely with proven success in one of the Alternatives investments space, Investment Banking or Management Consulting. Primary responsibilities are (1) diligence and assess potential partnerships with leading global alternatives investment fund managers (2) diligence “deal” opportunities (3) execution of new investment funds/products (4) ongoing diligence, monitoring, reporting, and valuations of existing funds and deals. Must have excellent modelling and presentation skills, and be willing to problem-solve.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

A. Diligence / Analysis

  • Work closely with the Head of Alternatives Partnerships
  • Drive financial and key investment factor analyses to support investment decisions; possible investments include those in funds, fund managers, and direct private equity / merchant banking style.
  • Manager Selection: Diligence of investment manager and fund track records and competitive analyses
  • Prepare investment summaries and due diligence reports
  • Conduct monitoring, reporting, and valuations of partnerships and deals and preparing associated reports
  • Will involve interacting with internal and external parties as part of processes to support the above (e.g., external alternatives managers, investment targets, and finance, legal, valuation, tax, and accounting professionals)
  • Accountable to achieve defined team goals / targets

B. New Product Execution

  • Work closely with the Alternatives team across investments, distribution, operations, legal, and tax to ensure that new products are successfully executed through key governance processes on a timely basis
  • Support new product introductions through bespoke analysis and supporting the production of key fund and marketing materials
  • Identify key trends in the market to generate ideas that will appeal to investor clients
  • Drive continuous improvement of key new product processes to compress time to market while maintaining a high level of quality

C. Existing Product Oversight

  • Assess how new and existing products work together for a balanced product offering
  • Review existing product shelf to refine product strategy and distribution to ensure market competitiveness
  • Leadership role in ongoing diligence, monitoring, reporting, and valuations of existing alternatives and private markets funds
  • Support existing product iterations, and investor presentations
  • Able to act as subject matter expert for alternatives funds facing sales and distribution teams, and investors across private wealth, family offices and institutional
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing products

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Knowledge:

  • 9+ years of experience in Alternatives, Investment Banking, or Management Consulting
  • Experience conducting deal and investment fund manager due diligence
  • Knowledge of Alternatives investment products across private markets and hedge fund strategies
  • Post secondary education in Business, Finance or quantitative field

Strong Assets:

  • MBA, Law Degree, CAIA and/or CFA in progress or completed is an asset
  • Experience with systems such as Morningstar, Preqin, Pitchbook, iCapital, and Bloomberg

$88,400.00 - $163,800.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
