Plans, designs, and oversees electrical systems for mission critical environments, commercial office buildings and retail environments. Formulates electrical designs that are safe, efficient, and conducive to intended purposes (e.g., supporting business operations, enhancing energy efficiency) in accordance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards to minimize adverse impact and maximize energy conservation (e.g., applying Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards). Develops and governs Electrical Design Guidelines used across the retail portfolio to support the vision, strategy, and operation of the Bank’s physical channels (branches, ATMs, and corporate offices). Acts as a consultant to architectural and construction teams to translate business requirements into electrical infrastructure. Works with engineers and designers to ensure optimal power distribution, lighting, and integration of smart technologies.
- Provides strategic input into business decisions as a trusted advisor.
- Makes recommendations to senior leaders on electrical engineering strategy and new initiatives, based on an in-depth understanding of the business/group.
- Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
- Networks with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.
- Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
- Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
- Develops business cases by identifying needs, analyzing potential options, and assessing expected return on investment.
- Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements, and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
- Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.
- Leads the execution of operational programs; assesses and adapts as needed to ensure quality of execution.
- Leads/supports contract negotiations with vendors, balancing cost, risk, and performance.
- Prepares electrical drawings and specifications using computer-aided design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
- Prepares information required for design, load calculations, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and timelines.
- Integrates electrical systems with architectural and mechanical designs.
- Consults with clients to determine functional and spatial requirements for electrical systems.
- Develops final construction plans including detailed electrical layouts.
- Conducts periodic on-site inspections to monitor compliance with plans and safety standards.
- Monitors work of specialists (e.g., lighting designers, automation experts) to ensure optimal performance.
- Performs predesign services such as feasibility studies and energy impact assessments.
- Inspects proposed building sites for electrical suitability.
- Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.
- Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to complex, non-routine problems.
- Implements changes in response to shifting trends.
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in Electrical Engineering; Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation required.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification optional but an asset.
- LEED Accredited Professional designation optional but an asset.
- Thorough understanding of electrical engineering best practices and innovative technologies.
- Ability to create electrical plans using industry-standard programs (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BlueBeam).
- Thorough understanding of electrical codes, building codes, and accessibility guidelines.
- Excellent experience with electrical design techniques, tools, and principles involved in producing precision technical plans and schematics.
- Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in electrical construction and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of energy efficiency principles and sustainable design.
- Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience, and industry knowledge.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
