The Senior Advisor, Ethics reports to the Director, Ethics and works primarily within corporate areas to ensure regulatory obligations are met, identify emerging trends related to conduct, culture and behaviour and advise on the implementation of appropriate actions to mitigate them, and develop and maintain information for analysis and reporting.
When addressing emerging trends, the Senior Advisor will contribute by providing oversight and making recommendations that align with other corporate areas and support the bank’s overall goals. To achieve this, the Senior Advisor will need to maintain knowledge of regulatory requirements and developments, and network with industry associations and other industry contacts to stay informed of industry developments and best practices.
As an individual contributor, the Senior Advisor, Ethics:
Provides strategic input into the application of ethical conduct expectations to business decisions as a trusted advisor (e.g. Responsible AI, conduct risk, due diligence, conflicts of interest management)
Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations, policies and practices related to the intersection of ethical behaviour and emerging risk practices including conduct and behaviour risk.
Provides expert advice and guidance to employees related to ethics, culture and conduct guidelines, conflicts, business practices, and related issues
Networks with industry contacts to gain competitive insights and best practices.
Drafts and comments on directives, policies, and procedures.
Builds effective, professional relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
Defines business requirements for analytics & reporting to ensure data insights inform business decision making.
Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
Collaborates with team members to administer targeted ethics, conduct, and culture related training to employees globally.
Provides guidance and support on conflicts related escalations, executive approvals and other governance and oversight responsibilities related to the enterprise Conflicts program.
Completes other tasks as may be assigned by the Director, Ethics
Qualifications:
Seasoned professional, with typically 7+ years of relevant experience (including experience in risk, legal, compliance or similar advisory functions, and translating and adapting regulatory guidance to applicable outcomes) and a post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong communication (verbal & written), critical thinking, relationship management and project management skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills / data driven decision-maker.
Influence skills.
Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration.
Able to manage ambiguity while operating effectively.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
