Role Mandate:
The Director, Advisor Sales, External Distribution - otherwise known as a Wholesaler - is responsible for, in cooperation with an Inside Sales Partner, selling BMO ETFs, mutual funds, guaranteed investment funds, alternative investments and CDRs (Canadian Depository Receipts) in an assigned geographic region to third-party financial advisors of all types (full-service IAs, Financial Planners and insurance licensed).
The Ideal Candidate:
- Needs to be driven by success and the never-ending ambition to be number one in sales.
- Should be and an exceptional communicator whether in 1:1 meetings, small groups, presentations, and with colleagues. Writing effective emails, conducting webinars, maintaining a dynamic presence in social media and general broadcasting will be important tools as well.
- Must have first-rate relationship building skills
- Will excel in cooperating with not only clients, prospects and their colleagues, but with his/her Inside Sales partner as well as sales colleagues, BMO Specialists, Portfolio Managers, Strategists and Sales Leaders.
- Needs to be very organized in setting successful routines. They will need to demonstrate having created, updated and executed successful business plans. His/her organizational skills will also be paramount in managing a pipeline, a vast territory, effective meetings and communications.
- Will have several years of proven success working in the wholesale of financial products.
- Will have strong existing relationships with many of our clients and top prospects in the territory.
- Will have a reputation as a valuable partner to investment advisors. As a partner, the candidate will require, at the very least, knowledge of BMO’s products, the competitive landscape, macro economic trends and value-adding ideas for advisors to use.
- Should have the knowledge, innovative nature and insight to aid in new product and programme developments that satisfy evolving client needs.
- Is required to possess a strong code of ethics and an issue-free track record of meeting our financial industry’s compliance, legal and policy requirements.
Requirements:
- Experience in the wholesale of financial products and the consequent previous experience of effectively managing a sales territory
- University degree in a related field
- Industry certifications such as CSC, CIM, CFP, PFP, FCSI, CFA, CAIA, …

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
