This role sits within Capital Markets Treasury and is responsible for supporting the management of liquidity and funding risk across BMO Capital Markets. The mandate includes monitoring, analysis, reporting, and strategic optimization of the balance sheet under evolving regulatory and business constraints.

As part of the first line of defense, the successful candidate will partner closely with Global Markets (GM) Lines of Business (LOBs), groups within Corporate Treasury, Technology, and Risk to ensure the sound management of liquidity, funding, and collateral. The role combines hands-on data analysis with forward-looking balance sheet optimization and infrastructure development. The role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of Capital Markets, Treasury, and Risk, with direct exposure to senior stakeholders and key strategic initiatives. It provides a strong platform to deepen expertise in liquidity, funding, and balance sheet optimization within a complex and evolving regulatory environment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the monitoring and reporting of liquidity and funding risk across Capital Markets, including funding and collateral usage, liability diversification, and key regulatory metrics (e.g., LCR, NSFR).
  • Produce timely, accurate management information and analysis to support oversight of funding activity and balance sheet usage.
  • Ensure adherence to Corporate Policies, Standards, and Guidelines as part of first line of defense responsibilities.
  • Partner with Technology and Operations to design, develop, and implement analytical models supporting liquidity risk oversight in BMO Capital Markets.
  • Contribute to the development and automation of reporting, dashboards, and data infrastructure for Capital Markets Treasury.
  • Assist in building and maintaining balance sheet and liquidity forecasting tools to support growth initiatives and process efficiency.
  • Perform balance sheet and liquidity analysis, including variance analysis and scenario-based impact assessments across capital, funding, and liquidity constraints.
  • Support initiatives to improve and optimize Capital Markets performance under binding balance sheet constraints.
  • Provide analytical support for new product initiatives, including data sourcing, impact sizing, and documentation of assumptions and constraints.
  • Work closely with Lines of Business to proactively identify and manage liquidity and funding exposures and opportunities.
  • Support the development of stress testing frameworks, liquidity scenario analysis, and contingency planning, including crisis reporting.
  • Assist in preparing crisis management and contingency reporting packs to support management with quarterly annual review and updates
  • Prepare materials and reporting for senior management and risk oversight committees on liquidity and funding risk.

Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • CPA/ CFA/FRM (completed or in progress) is preferred.
  • 2 - 5+ years’ experience, with exposure to one or more of the following: Treasury/ Liquidity and Funding Management, Capital Markets, Stress Testing, Financial/ Regulatory Reporting , Balance sheet analytics ,Business Process improvement
  • Understanding of international financial markets and banking & broker/dealer regulatory environments.
  • Working knowledge of trading and settlement systems, loan systems.
  • Strong analytical and data management skills; In-depth knowledge of MS Office suite including but not limited to (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and/or VBA, SQL, python and Power BI.
  • Experience and understanding of liquidity and funding principles, market and credit risk management practices, funds transfer pricing principles, financial instruments, and Trading Products operations;
  • Understanding of international best practices in capital, liquidity and funding management, and process improvement.

Skills:

  • Ability to understand and analyze complex financial products and transactions (i.e. derivatives, secured financing transactions, structured products, and fixed income);
  • Ability to assist in development of analytical models and decompose complex transactions into their balance sheet elements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical, data management, and attention to detail, with a disciplined approach to processes and controls.
  • Strong process improvement and change management capabilities, with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
  • Solid presentation skills, with the ability to develop clear and impactful materials for senior audiences.

Salary:

$67,200.00 - $124,200.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
