Description
The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• A Diploma from an accredited College in a Health or Social Service Program, with an addiction concentration or complimented by other recognized/relevant Addiction Studies required
• Valid certification in CPR, First Aid (have taken it once), and Crisis Intervention preferred or required within three months of start
• Valid Ontario unrestricted Class ‘G’ Driver’s license required
• Ability to be deployed by vehicle, bicycle or on foot, working in teams of two
• Within 2 years of hire- will obtain an Addictions and Mental Health Ontario Graduate Certificate
• Basic proficiency in the use of computers required
• Proven experience working in the field of addictions and/or withdrawal management required
• Health and physical ability to assist/manage intoxicated clients required
• Demonstrated ability to develop empathetic, professional relationships with chemically dependent/addicted individual required
• Demonstrated understanding and practice of the principles of Universal Precautions, harm reduction and crisis management required
• Client assessment skills for monitoring withdrawal management symptoms and client’s stage of readiness for change required
• Proven ability to do withdrawal management assessments, individual work and group work preferred
• Knowledge of pharmacology relevant to withdrawal management preferred
• Knowledge of Agencies and Facilities available for treatment of addictions preferred
• Demonstrated capacity for work in a stressful environment with rapidly changing demands preferred
• Provision of withdrawal management care to clients in the Integrated Withdrawal Management Program (IWMP)
• Crisis intervention and support for clients
• Perform health and wellness checks, provision of warming, cooling and harm reduction supplies
• Screening, assessment, monitoring, provision of physical care, providing education and treatment options to the clients
• Formulation and documentation of a comprehensive care plan and discharge plan in collaboration with the client
• Facilitates individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention and aftercare support services
• Outreach services and administrative duties as required
• Referral to other services, for example: primary care, housing and other social supports
• Participates in unit/department and Hospital Quality Improvement initiatives
• Completes continuing education requirements as necessary
• Other related duties as assigned
