PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

In collaboration with the legal team members and internal clients, support the business and provide - in a timely manner - clear, practical and proactive legal advice on diverse legal issues.

  • Assist and provide legal advice to the different business units.
  • Conduct legal research when appropriate.
  • Interpret legal documents, applicable laws and regulations relevant to the business through legal advice and risks management/evaluation.
  • Assist and work with the different business units to draft, review, negotiate and interpret a wide spectrum of commercial agreements (LOI, various agreements, leases, franchise agreements, Software Licenses, SPA, APA, etc.).
  • Ensure compliance with contractual agreements, company policies and risk profile as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage litigation (when necessary).
  • Collaborate closely with all internal and external partners.

In collaboration with the legal team members, advise on possible ramifications of new and upcoming laws and regulations as well as provide necessary training (reminder or new training as needed).

  • Remain informed of new laws, regulations and industry trends/best practices affecting the organization and assist with the development of policies and training as required.
  • Anticipate, plan and conduct training sessions to the business units (i.e. competition law impact and franchising law).
  • Understand and share best practices within the local & global legal teams.

In collaboration with the legal team members, ensure compliance and file maintenance and management in accordance with best practices and legal requirements.

  • Strictly follow Code of Ethics.
  • Keep well informed of all activities related to Belron Canada Inc. and its affiliates to ensure proper maintenance of minute books.

Take part in the business, collaborate with the legal team members and other business partners and seek to actively build relationships.

  • Take the time to get to know the team and different business units/leaders.
  • Participate in the induction process.
  • Show interest on matters led by the Global Legal Group and share best practices.
  • Participate in one-on-one meetings with key internal and external partners.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:

  • Law degree and licensed to practice law in the province of Québec.
  • Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec.
  • Common Law is a strong asset as well as a business-related degree.

Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in commercial/transactional work.
  • Experience in franchising and competition law, an asset.
  • Previous in-house experience within a large organization, an asset.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in corporate/commercial legal matters including drafting and negotiation, and strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent commercial sense/business acumen and analytical skills.
  • Ability to influence and deliver results from legal initiatives and activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative business relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Flexible, creative and innovative with strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • High integrity and standards, passionate and high energy.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong collaborative and influencing skills.

  • Ability to analyze a variety of issues and develop practical recommendations while influencing others.

Linguistic requirements:

  • Bilingualism, oral and written (French/English).
