The Role:
The Senior Park Ranger is the primary on-the-ground representative for BC Parks, serving as the front-line contact for visitors while delivering and supporting a wide range of park programs. This role encompasses natural and cultural resource management, facility maintenance, compliance and enforcement, public safety, and emergency response. Depending on operational needs, the Senior Park Ranger may also involve supervising staff and volunteers, managing projects and contracts, and contributing to park and recreation management planning. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Natural Resource Management (e.g. recreation planning and/or management, biology, geology, natural resource management, forestry, fisheries, etc., geography, environmental studies, etc.) and six (6) months’ experience or Outdoor Recreation Management related degree and six (6) months’ directly related experience; or
  • Completed related degree or two (2) year diploma in Outdoor Recreation Management or a Natural Resource Management related field (related field may include: biology, geology, geography, recreational planning, outdoor recreation, forestry, fisheries, anthropology); and 12 months’ related experience; or
  • Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) and two (2) years’ related experience (related experience can include: park system (operations), conservation, outdoor recreation, forestry, any earth sciences, recreation planning, public safety/enforcement).

Related experience includes:

  • Experience in natural resource management (such as ecosystem management, fish and/or wildlife management, forestry management, invasive species management, natural resource inventory and research, environmental impact assessment), cultural resource management (such as archaeological or cultural site management, archaeology), First Nation agreement management, and/or parks and protected area management encompassing a broad range of activities and initiatives related to the delivery of recreation and conservation programs and services including recreation facility management, natural resource management, inventory or research, park operations management, and/or compliance and enforcement; and/or,
  • Experience in outdoor recreation management (such as outdoor recreation planning, outdoor recreation facility development, operation and/or maintenance of outdoor recreations facilities, outdoor recreation service delivery); and/or,
  • Experience in compliance and enforcement related to natural resource or recreation management.

Preference may be given to those with one (1) or more of the following:

  • Experience in compliance and enforcement.
  • Experience in procurement, contract/contractor and budget management.
  • Experience in human resource management including supervision and recruitment.

About this Position:
There are currently two (2) permanent, full time positions available in Port McNeill.
One position is assigned to the Cape Scott Area, the other position is assigned to the South Central Coast Area.
Port McNeill receives a $47.18 bi-weekly isolation allowance.
These positions are field-based and have full time on site requirements.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies in Port McNeill.
