GeoBC is responsible for the acquisition, creation, management and analysis of geospatial information to support the development of products and services which help Government better manage natural resources and communities in British Columbia. Participating in the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) program is an exciting opportunity to create foundational data products that will have long-lasting benefits for British Columbians. As a Geomatics Specialist, you and your team will participate in a multi-agency initiative within the LiDAR Program, lead by GeoBC in collaboration with Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch of the Ministry of Forests, to prepare specialised LiDAR data products,
including:

  • Classified Point Clouds,
  • Digital Elevation Models (DEM),
  • Digital Surface Models (DSM),
  • Canopy Height Models (CHM),
  • Tree and Canopy Grid Metrics, and
  • Individual Tree Databases


As a Geomatics Specialist - Georeferencing, you will apply your experience, knowledge, and skills for LiDAR data post-processing, calibration, and GNSS/INS integration to help deliver the LiDAR Program’s objectives. Your work comprises applying advanced software tools and techniques to produce and validate the accuracy of LiDAR point clouds, enabling reliable and consistent analysis and mapping applications. You will develop and deliver innovative solutions and implement methodologies, workflows, and best practices with your team. With your strong collaboration, supervisory and mentoring skills, you will train staff and ensure adherence to data quality standards. You share your knowledge and expertise with your co-workers to support an environment of continual business improvement. You will be a vital team member creating products to support British Columbia's communities and manager its natural resources.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in remote sensing, geomatics engineering, mathematics, physics, or computer science.
• Experience developing methodologies and performing custom georeferencing and/or complex statistical analysis and interpretations.
• Experience supporting and leading project teams.

Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following experience with:
• Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) & Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) processing software (e.g., POSPAC).
• Geodetic survey layout and GNSS control post-processing (e.g., GrafNet, GrafNav software).
• Experience developing and managing large spatial (digital imagery, LiDAR, inSAR) and attribute data sets and experience with database management tools and geo-referencing applications.
• Developing, explaining, and presenting findings, reports, and summaries of results both verbally and in writing, in a clear and concise style that is appropriate to the audience.
• More years of experience in any of the above statements.

This position can be based out of any of the locations listed above.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
