Job Summary

The Team
The North Fraser Indigenous Youth Team is a specialized, multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting Indigenous children, youth, and families across the North Fraser Service Delivery Area. The team includes Indigenous‑focused Protection Social Workers, an Indigenous‑focused Guardianship Worker, and an Indigenous Youth Advisor who brings lived experience and youth voice into practice and planning. We work collaboratively and relationally, centering Indigenous perspectives, community knowledge, and shared responsibility in all aspects of our work. As an SDA‑wide team, we partner closely with Nations, Indigenous organizations, and community supports to provide coordinated, culturally responsive service delivery. Our team values reflection, mutual support, and learning, and is committed to creating a culturally safe workplace grounded in respect, accountability, and care for one another.

The Role
The Indigenous Family Service Worker supports Indigenous children, youth, and families by assessing and responding to concerns of abuse and neglect through a trauma‑informed, culturally grounded, and relational lens. Practice is rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing, with a strong emphasis on cultural safety, humility, and respect for identity, community, and connection to Nation and land. The role works in partnership with children, youth, families, Elders, Nations, and Indigenous communities to address protection concerns while upholding jurisdictional, legislative, and policy requirements alongside Indigenous laws, protocols, and inherent rights. All work is guided by relationship‑building, accountability, and a commitment to supporting the safety, belonging, and well‑being of Indigenous children and youth. This position specializes in working with Indigenous youth, with a strong focus on aging‑out planning, permanency, and cultural continuity. The worker supports youth and families through a conference‑based approach aligned with the APPF circle process, including intentional pre‑circle work, relationship preparation, and cultural and ceremonial supports where appropriate. The role involves managing a caseload while providing one‑to‑one, strengths‑based support to children, youth, and families, completing clear and timely documentation, and working collaboratively to ensure planning reflects the youth’s identity, voice, and long‑term connection to family, culture, and community.
