This position is the scientific advisor in the field of natural resource management, who conducts applied research to support science-based decision-making and provides expert professional advice in the field of soils and silviculture or soils and geomorphology. This position identifies regional needs, conducts research, and prepares extension materials to provide innovative options to resource management issues relating to their discipline.

Job Requirements:

  • Thesis-based M.Sc. or higher specializing in Forest Soils and Silviculture and/or Geomorphology.
  • Registration or eligible for registration as a Registered Professional Forester with the Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC), a Professional Agrologist with the BC Institute of Agrologists, or a Professional Geoscientist with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC.
  • 2 years or more experience planning and implementing research projects.


Provisos/Willingness Statements

  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence.
  • Must hold, or be willing to obtain Level 1 First Aid Certification.
  • Must be willing and physically able to work outdoors in remote areas and in a variety of conditions.
  • Willingness to fly in planes and helicopters.
  • Must hold, or be willing to obtain ATV Operator and Snow Machine Operator certifications.

About this Position:

There is one (1) full time permanent position available. This position can be based in any of the following Ministry of Forest offices: Dawson Creek, Fort St John.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
