EMCR works directly with First Nations, local authorities, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and industry in all hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. The Hydrotechnical Engineer provides technical guidance for all phases of EMCRs mitigation and funding programs and applies professional advisory expertise regarding disaster risk reduction, including risk assessments, hazard modelling and risk mapping, mitigation planning, and structural/natural/non-structural mitigation measures. Activities focus on flood hazards (including coastal, riverine, steep creek and urban settings) and provides general support for risk reduction from all natural hazards (including geohazards, avalanche, seismic) and climate risks. Job Requirements: Education and Experience Masters degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Applied Science, Science, Resource Management, Natural Sciences, a related professional field or equivalent with a minimum three (3) years of *related experience; OR Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Applied Science, Science, Resource Management, Natural Sciences, a related professional field or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years of *related experience. Registered membership in good standing or *immediately eligibility for registration, as a fully licensed professional with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia. NOTE: *Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable Canadian jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area. Confirmation of registration / eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made. * Related experience must include all of the following: Progressive and varied experience in hydrotechnical applications and flood hazard management, including some or all of the following: flood risk assessment, hydraulic/hydrometric modelling, fluvial geomorphology, flood hazard and risk mapping, structural/natural flood mitigation engineering and non-structural mitigation practices. Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships with partners (such as First Nations, local governments, NGOs or federal/provincial government). Experience resolving complex problems that involve adaptation or deviation from existing policy. Experience analyzing complex information from multiple sources and making recommendations for new directions or policies, and preparing briefing documents, high level reports and decision notes. Experience in interpreting and applying a climate change/adaptation lens to technical or policy work. Experience with permitting requirements for flood-related critical infrastructure work. Preference may be given to applicants with any of the following: Experience in more than one (1) area of natural hazard or climate risk management (flooding, steep creek processes, geohazards, avalanche, seismic, wildfire, etc.). One (1) or more years of experience in policy development and/or implementation within a government context (e.g., First Nation, local government, Province, etc.). One (1) or more years of experience in emergency management (mitigation, preparedness, response, recovery) or climate adaptation.
