Job Summary

CleanBC is a comprehensive plan to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A cross-ministry, multi-disciplinary product team was formed to research, design and deliver a coordinated digital experience for CleanBC services and programs. The team is taking an agile, human-centred, and evidence-based approach to support public awareness and uptake of climate related information and services via cleanbc.ca, goelectricbc.ca, betterhomesbc.ca and other related websites and services.

The Senior Service Designer, based in the Service Transformation Branch in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, is the senior expert for leading and performing all research and design activities of of the CleanBC Digital Experience Team and cross-Ministry partners. The position works in an Agile team and with multiple partners to design multiple products and services that have medium or long-term business impacts. The position will lead a team of designers by providing advice and serving as a subject-matter expert for service design and facilitating workshops.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Information Management and/or Information Technology, including Design (e.g., Service, User Experience (UX), Human-Computer Interaction) and three (3) years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in the Information Management and/or Information Technology, including Design (e.g., Service, UX, Human-Computer Interaction) and four (4) years of related experience; OR
  • Certificate or course work in the Information Management and/or Information Technology, including Design (e.g., Service, UX, Human-Computer Interaction) and five (5) years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Related experience must include a minimum number of three (3) years in each of the following:

  • Experience in using human-centred design methods to design and deliver services including: Service Design or User Research or UX Design.
  • Experience in using and adjusting facilitation, visualization, and storytelling skills to provide the right context to diverse groups and audiences.
  • Experience in planning and executing research activities to inform and evaluate the design of products and services.
  • Experience in designing or redesigning a large and complex service that meet the needs of users, alleviate pain points, and reduce operational costs.
  • Experience in analyzing and synthesizing multiple sources of data, including observational interviews, qualitative and quantitative data, and direct user feedback for improving products and services.
  • Experience in using design, research, and collaboration tools (example: Figma/Sketch/AdobeXD, survey software and Mural).


Preferences may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following

  • Experience working within cross-functional and Agile product teams, collaborating with designers, researchers, developers, product managers, and other subject matter experts to create or improve digital products and services.
  • Experience leading significant change in an organization.
  • Experience with long term commitment to delivering services to citizens.
