The Maples Adolescent Centre is a program of Provincial Services Division of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The Maples is a designated provincial mental health facility providing on-site, community, outreach and ancillary services to collaboratively support youth, families and communities. The Maples target population consists of youth in British Columbia with significant psychiatric and behavioural difficulties, ages 12 to 17, as well as youth found Not Criminally Responsible by Reason of a Mental Disorder (NCRMD) or unfit to stand trial. Under the direction of a Shift Supervisor, the Nurse 4 acts as a member of the interdisciplinary team and provides direct comprehensive nursing care to clients. Positions at this level work rotating shift hours as Maples is a 24/7 facility. Job Requirements: In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below: Registered with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM), with a designation of either RPN, or RN. Preference may be given to one or both of the following: Experience working with adolescents from diverse cultural backgrounds. Recent (within the past 3 years) work experience in the field of adolescent psychiatry. Provisos: Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 BC Drivers License with no restrictions and meets the transportation requirements of the Ministry. Standard First Aid & CPR-C & AED. As a condition of employment, must successfully complete Level 1 OFA. Willingness Statements: Shift work is a requirement as this is a 24-hour facility. Must be able to work days/ evenings/ midnights/ weekends. Will be required to work around youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around youth in crisis who may display volatile behaviour. Travel, as necessary, is a requirement. Provide First Aid coverage and medical support for staff, as required under WorkSafeBC guidelines.
