Job Summary

The Team
The Human Rights Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial Tribunal established by the Human Rights Code (“Code”) to provide dispute resolution services in human rights matters. The Tribunal receives, mediates, and adjudicates complaints in human rights matters.

The Role
The Member Legal Assistant supports Tribunal Members, the Chair, and the Registrar by helping manage cases and hearings from start to finish. This role prepares and reviews documents, does basic legal research, proofreads and releases decisions, helps organize and schedule hearings, and keeps records up to date. This role is well suited to someone who is organized, pays close attention to detail, and enjoys supporting important public‑facing work.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Certificate or coursework in a legal administrative assistant program and 1 year related experience; OR
  • Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 2-years related experience; OR
  • Evergreen and 2 years related experience; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working in a near paperless environment, using only online or computer-based systems to manage work, document outcomes and record statistical data.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience working in a legal office.
  • Experience with computer software tools and techniques used for legal purposes (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, and MS Office, Summation).
  • Experience with computer software tools and techniques used for legal purposes including electronic case management and diarizing tasks.

This position is located in Vancouver.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work from home a few days a week subject to an approved telework agreement.
