Job Summary

The Team
The Cariboo Fire Centre and Central Cariboo Fire Zone are established teams made up of diverse, dedicated people who work together toward a shared goal of keeping communities safe. With more than 100 staff across office and field roles-including prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery-you’ll collaborate with a wide range of professionals from across the region and the province. This work directly supports all four pillars of emergency management and provides an essential service to the people of British Columbia, all within a supportive and fulfilling team environment.

The Role
The Operations Assistant provides essential administrative and clerical support to the Cariboo Fire Centre and Central Cariboo Fire Zone, helping the team work efficiently and stay organized. This role supports wildfire prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery activities, contributing to safer and more resilient communities across the Williams Lake area and the Cariboo Region. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Experience working in an office setting
  • Valid Class 5 or 7 driver licence


Preference may be given to candidates with the following experience:

  • Working in government
  • In heavy equipment
  • Working with contracts
  • Working Microsoft office programs including Word, Excel, Outlook and One Note
  • In natural resource or forestry work environments
  • In client service roles


Provisos /Willingness statement(s)

  • To be flexible regarding ongoing changes in responsibilities, assignments and corporate structures
  • To keep current on emerging issues
  • To take in-house training and certification as required
  • To fly in aircraft (fixed wing and rotary) as required
  • To work extended hours, including weekends, and be on standby with limited notice in accordance with the preparedness plan
  • To travel and overnight in remote locations where accommodations may vary as required
  • To participate in Incident Command System positions as assigned
  • To work under adverse or stressful conditions, including smoke, extreme heat and mountainous terrain in remote and isolated conditions

One position is available, with a possibility of a second position. Positions can be based in the Central Cariboo Fire Zone or Cariboo Fire Centre.
This temporary (auxiliary) opportunity starts in approximately March 2026 and ends in October 2026, with possibility of recall on a yearly basis.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
Williams Lake has a rich history regarding the Cariboo gold rush, and is located in a valley in the interior plateau of central B.C.. Whitewater rafting and single-track mountain biking are unique activities available in Williams Lake. The Williams Lake Stampede is one of the biggest rodeos in western Canada and pays tribute to local ranching history.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
