The Terrestrial Species Recovery Branch resides within the Resource Stewardship Division of the Ministry and strives to implement effective conservation solutions for British Columbias at-risk flora, fauna, and ecological communities for the continuing benefit of future generations of British Columbians. The incumbent will work with provincial government partners, as well as partners from other governments (federal, First Nation and others as appropriate), and non-governmental organizations to support the implementation of conservation actions to achieve population and habitat recovery goals and objectives for terrestrial species and ecosystems at risk. The species-at-risk biologist will provide direct support to the senior species-at-risk biologist in the coordination and delivery of species-at-risk recovery efforts within the interior region of British Columbia. Job Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences, plus 4 years related experience*; OR Master of Science or higher in biological sciences, plus 2 years of related experience*. Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. o Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/ eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible. *Related Experience: Experience related to field-based inventory and/or monitoring of species and/or ecosystems at risk. Experience in the interpretation and application of natural resource management legislation and policy. Experience in project management and coordination, funding applications, implementation of conservation actions, and reporting as they pertain to species-at-risk recovery. Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following: Experience leading staff in project or field settings. Experience working with First Nations communities and/or facilitating First Nations consultations or negotiations. Experience working with R, ArcGIS, and/or other tools for data management, analysis, and visualisation. Experience writing and reviewing provincial and federal recovery Strategies for at risk species. WILLINGNESS STATEMENTS Valid B.C. drivers licence. Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC. May require the operation of a variety of equipment. Conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Ability to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
