Key activities include: maintaining the diversity and viability of BCs freshwater fish stocks, habitat and recreational fisheries for the people of British Columbia. Job Requirements: Degree in biological sciences or equivalent. Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of employment. Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible. Minimum four (4) years of freshwater fisheries experience, including field-based biological sampling, data analysis and reporting, and providing advice within a regulatory regime. Experience conducting field work, which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions. Preference may be given to applicants with the following: Experience leading staff in freshwater fisheries projects or field settings. Experience and advanced scientific knowledge of a specialty area (ie. freshwater fish populations and habitat). Experience interpreting and applying natural resource management legislation and policy. Experience operating large and small motorized watercraft. Provisos Valid B.C. drivers licence. Must meet the safety standards of Work Safe BC. Requires the operation of a variety of equipment, including: 4x4 light vehicles, large and small boats, pontoon boats, outboard motors, GPS & In-Reach units, electronic measuring and sampling devices, sonar units, electro fishing equipment, radio tracking equipment, compass, hand and power tools, winches, computers, lake aeration units, diffusers, compressors, pumps, GIS software and equipment and bear spray units.
