It partners with decision makers and subject matter experts in the development of policy and regulatory requirements to draft legislation/regulations/orders that are: consistent with governments strategic priorities; meets the intent of decision makers and the goals and objectives of the ministry; and is consistent with and complementary to existing law and other program areas mandates. Reporting to the Executive Director, Strategic Priorities, the Director of Legislation oversees the delivery of the ministrys legislative framework, including maintenance all or part of 28 statutes and their associated regulations. The Director is responsible for providing advice to senior government and ministry officials and for leading a team responsible for developing policy, new and/or amended legislation and regulation, Orders in Council and Ministerial Orders. The Legislation Branch is service oriented working with policy and program areas in the development and execution of its work. Job Requirements: University degree in law, public administration or public policy; OR, a university degree in another field combined with at least three (3) years experience in the provision of corporate services (e.g. public policy, legislation). Three (3) years or more of experience leading the development of complex legislation or policy advice. Management experience: leading and supervising a team of both experienced and newer employees, including experience with teambuilding, performance management, and mentoring; and, establishing and meeting strategic priorities using tools such as plans, performance measures, budgets or contracts. Experience with supporting decision-making by bodies, such as the Legislature, Cabinet, Cabinet Committees or Treasury Board. Experience advising senior executives or elected officials.
