Job Summary

The Team
The Communications Operations division of Government Communications and Public Engagement (GCPE) provides a full range of communications advice and services to support government’s programs and priorities across all ministries. Working alongside other communications specialists, you’ll contribute to a team that plays a vital role in keeping British Columbians informed and connected.

The Role
As Communications Manager, you will lead daily operations of a team to support an assigned ministry. You will work closely with the Communications Director to lead strategic planning, manage high-profile issues, and guide the creation and quality of impactful content across traditional and digital platforms. This position is ideal for those who thrive in fast-paced environments and want their work to make a meaningful difference.

Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field such as journalism, public relations, political science, writing, English, or a communications-related discipline and 5 years of related work experience* in progressively more responsible communications positions; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and work experience may be considered.

*Related work experience includes a combination of all the following:

  • Experience in stakeholder and partner engagement, and media or public relations.
  • Experience in issues management and communications strategy planning.
  • Experience in professional writing/communications product development (e.g.: engagement and communication plans, new releases, backgrounders; publication content; speech writing; web and digital content, etc.).
  • Experience managing complex files and diverse workloads proactively, effectively, independently and under pressure.
  • Experience supervising staff and leading a team.

Preference may be given to those with:

  • Experience having direct responsibility for developing and coordinating internal/external communications and engagement functions of a complex corporate or public sector organization.
  • Experience with government and parliamentary procedures.
  • Experience in a wide range of communications shops.

About this Position:
This position is excluded from union membership.
This position is based in Victoria.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
The starting salary for this position is $88,700.23 to $98,000.00.
An eligibility list may be established to fill future temporary and permanent vacancies.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
