School Social Worker

Position Description:

School District 60 is looking for a compassionate,

dedicated school social worker to assist in addressing the emotional and social

well-being of our students. We are dedicated to providing services that assist

students to develop attitudes, skills and knowledge required to successfully

participate in educational experiences. We provide indirect and direct services

to the student and/or school community. Our collective knowledge, skills,

energy, creativity and empathy support and nurture this process

This position is to start immediately and end on June 30, 2024.

This is an exempt position and as such is not eligible for overtime and it is not part of a Union.

Hours: 40 hours/week, minimum 8 hours per day

Key Duties:

Provide information, when appropriate, to outside support services to help students with economic, emotional, or physical issues.

Assist at-risk students or students with disabilities.

Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators to understand students' challenges.

Maintain case files and reports to track students' progress and problems.

Help students and families suffering from abuse, violence, hunger, or homelessness to access resources like shelters, food banks, and medical care.

Consult with school administrators, teachers, support staff, school based team, parents

Plan and facilitate in-service training sessions for classroom teachers, youth care workers, educational assistants, and parents

Other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Attributes:

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work or other relevant field

Valid license to practice Social Work in BC preferred

Experience within a setting where services related to a person’s social, emotional and life adjustment were required

Excellent interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills are required to work at all three tiers of a responsive system, supporting teachers, school teams and parents in developing and strengthening the social and emotional skills of our children & youth

Experience in providing liaison between school, home and community agencies, and facilitating referrals for service

Must be available to school based-staff at school locations

Must be flexible and team orientated

The candidate must have a reliable vehicle and be willing to travel to rural and in-town schools

Preference will be given to the candidate who has the above skill set plus:

Ability to participate in meetings outside of the regular school day to support learning

Participating as an active member of the School-Based Team (SBT) and District support teams

Qualifications and experience in counselling children/youth

Knowledge and skills to develop and support district protocols such as: Safety plan, Crisis Prevention & Intervention Plans, Emergency Plans, Risk Assessment and Threat Assessments

Experience and knowledge of processes such as Wraparound, Restorative Justice, Circle Talks, and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) supports

Providing individual group and family counselling and intervention services during a time of crisis with the focus of connecting students and family to community resources/services as appropriate

Skills to develop and implement individual/group programs in areas such as social skills, self-esteem, anger management, bullying, anxiety and peer pressure

Collaborative; team orientated

Compensation:

$2,000 relocation allowance from BC, AB and Yukon and up to $4,000 from other areas
