JOB PURPOSE : To provide children at Kitaskinaw Education Authority high quality, direct occupational therapy services according to the students needs and IPP Plans. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for developing treatment plans that are strength-based as well as child and family centered focussing on overall educational improvement using Occupational Therapy expertise in activity and environmental analysis and modification with a goal of reducing the barriers in school for the student. The Occupational Therapist would be responsible for providing assessment throughout the school year for all students and training resources for school personnel and families as required. They are responsible for assisting and guiding teachers in observing, describing, and referring students for occupational therapy. They will consult with teaching teams to develop and implement curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies. Responsibilities will include conducting assessments, analyzing results, and writing reports to address the physical, cognitive, and sensory components for the students at Kitaskinaw Education Authority. The occupational therapist will have knowledge of how to use meaningful activities to help children and youth participate in what they need and/or want to do in order to promote physical and mental wellbeing in and out of school.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

MSc in Occupational Therapy and a member of the Alberta College of Occupation Therapists.

1-2 years of experience in Occupational Therapy.

Required to sign the Confidentiality Agreement during Orientation. Have a clear Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.

Maskkosak ancestry and ability to speak Cree will be considered an asset.

Communicate effectively and work closely with children, parents, and colleagues.

Joy in dealing with people (especially children). Accept the responsibility for daily projects and the supervision of children .

Strong working knowledge of childhood development.

Physical fitness and the ability to perform tasks such as sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting children .

Up-to-date first aid and CPR certifications.

Must have their own transportation and a valid drivers license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work a total of 40 hours a week, at maskekosak kiskinomatowikamik, while adhering to the Kitaskinaw Education Authoritys Policy & Procedure Manual and Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
