Summary:

Bella Bella Community School Society is looking for a compassionate and dynamic individual with confident classroom management skills to teach high school careers courses, including Career Life Education 10, Career Life Connections 12 and some humanities courses. This position does include supporting and guiding students through grades 10-12 academic planning. As a vital member of the school’s teaching team, the Graduation Coordination - Career Teacher is assigned BC Ministry and BAA courses for students in grades 8-12. Additionally, the teacher will provide support in implementing school priorities and plans, including overseeing and organizing graduation tracking and planning for year-end celebrations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plan, organize and implement an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

Facilitate learning by establishing and maintaining a continual focus on relationships with students.

Maintain and organize learning resources and information in the classroom.

Create a classroom culture that will capture and maintain students’ interest, effort, participation, and enthusiasm for the course content and the learning process.

Develop and foster the appropriate skills and social abilities to enable the optimum development of students according to age and aptitude.

Use balanced assessment and feedback to improve student learning, including formative and summative assessment strategies.

Create and maintain an optimal learning environment for each student while managing student behaviour and classroom dynamics.

Create and maintain a caring, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students.

Participate in the IEP process to best meet the needs of all students.

Monitor and track graduation progress, advising and supporting students with course selections.

Organizing and supporting year-end graduation celebration

Additional duties are assigned within the same scope and job level.

Required Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of the BC Ministry of Education’s current philosophy and teaching practices

Knowledge of the BC Ministry of Education’s graduation, evaluation, assessment, and reporting procedures.

Demonstrate flexibility to adjust and adapt to changing circumstances.

Knowledgeable about the role of technology in supporting learning, including google classroom and Microsoft 365

Be committed to working collaboratively with youth, staff, administration, parents, and community partners in a team setting.

Communicate effectively orally and in writing with discretion, tact, courtesy, and professionalism.

Use excellent organizational and time management skills to work independently with initiative.

Willing to support and engage with the SEAS (Supporting Emerging Aboriginal Stewards) program and initiatives.

Have a strong interest and capacities in extra-curricular activities.

Display social-emotional competencies of self-awareness, empathy, flexibility, relationship-building and responsible decision-making.

Required Education, Experience, Certifications and Licences:

Valid BC Teachers Certificate through the Teacher Regulation Branch of British Columba.

Specialization and/or experience in teaching students in career courses at the secondary level.

Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Experience working in an Indigenous setting is preferred.

Have an understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture and history.
