for the following position within Continuing Education:

Grades 6, 7 & 8 Elementary 2024 Summer Program - Elementary Teacher

Program Overview

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board operates a Summer School Program for students who are in Grades 6, 7 & 8 during the 2023-2024 school year. Anyone offered and accepting work within the program is afforded with protection through district policies and procedures pertaining to all aspects of their work, including Health & Safety. In addition, please note that your work within this non-credit program does not allow you to accrue Continuing Education seniority credits.

The 2024 Elementary Summer School program will be offered in person and virtually.

Program Components:

Mathematics and Language Arts (English - including ESL)

Teacher Commitment (17.5 FTE days)

Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 8:30 am - 11:30 am or time to be determined by the Program Principal (staff meeting/program prep)

Wednesday, July 3 - Thursday, July 25, 2024 (teaching days)

** All teachers are expected to work from a designated summer school site regardless of whether teaching in person or virtually unless they have accommodations organised through PCL/Employee Wellness.

Locations (pending enrollment): Broadview Public School, Jack Donohue Public School, Steve MacLean Public School, Summerside Public School, Virtual School (Synchronous).

Virtual Classes: The platforms that will be used to deliver Virtual Learning expectations will include Google Classroom and Google Meet.

Pay Rate: $48.79 per instructional hour + 4% vacation pay.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Teachers will report to the assigned Continuing Education Summer School Site Principal and will attend meetings to plan and organize the summer program, as required.

Teachers are expected to deliver the assigned elementary summer school program: in person or virtually, assess students’ progress and complete report cards.

Application Process

There is only one posting for the Teacher posting for the Grades 6, 7 & 8 Elementary 2024 Summer Program. All OCT certified teachers (with or without Continuing Education (CE) Seniority) can apply to this posting through Apply to Education.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants MUST hold qualifications in English and/or Mathematics at the J/I or I/S level with the Ontario College of Teachers, and be in good standing, at the time of application.

Additional Qualifications in Special Education and/or ESL are an asset.

Other preferred qualifications are:

Current and relevant classroom experience.

Teaching experience at the Intermediate level (Language Arts and/or Mathematics) using high yield teaching strategies.

Direct co-learning experience(s) with other teachers in effective classroom practices.

PLEASE NOTE: As a condition of employment, all new employees will be required to submit a recent Police Record Check for the vulnerable sector prior to their start date with the OCDSB.

Staffing Timelines

As classes are confirmed, applicants will be contacted by email by the Continuing Education Supervising Principal in early June.

Offers will be sent to the email you provided in Apply to Education (ATE) by the Principal of Continuing Education. Please make sure that your preferred email address is up-to-date in ATE. Offers of work will include specific response parameters, including timelines to accept/decline the offer. These timelines may be short (24 hours) and may be sent over the weekend.
