Aon is currently recruiting for an Employee Relations Consultant to join our team. This can be virtual, hybrid or office based out of one of our Aon Canada office locations.

 

The Employee Relations Consultant will be primarily responsible for providing expert, practical, problem-solving advice and support on Employee Relations matters including but not limited to performance, absence management, HR investigations and policy interpretation.

What the day will look like:

HR Consultant to Colleagues and Managers: Has a variety of interactions with managers and colleagues including responding to queries and issues related to HR policies and processes. Operates interdependently as part of a centralized shared services team to organize priorities and resolve issues. They interact with People Org Business Partners, General Counsel, Compliance and other interdependent functions to determine appropriate course of action and bring queries and issues to closure. Core areas of consulting include:

Performance Management: Provides advice and counsel on performance management issues. Partners with the colleague, manager and other business leaders to address performance gaps and facilitates discussions/ process to assess appropriate action. Provides coaching to managers on all aspects of performance including delivering feedback effectively and improving performance.

Workforce Relations: Conducts investigations independently and brings to closure following appropriate protocol. Partners with senior investigators on critical complex situations that have potential for broad exposure.

Policy/ Procedure/ Employment Practices and Laws: Responds to complex questions about HR policy/process. Supports managers in applying HR policies to high-risk situations; ensures People Org Business Partners are appropriately involved so that appropriate visibility is achieved.

HR Program Effectiveness/ Project Participant: Provides input and feedback to Employee Relations Management on gaps and opportunities for improvement in HR programs and internal partnerships. Represents Operations in projects to develop/refine HR programs as assigned by manager. Acts as an HR Subject Matter Expert in areas of expertise.

 

How this opportunity is different

This role consults on solutions and strategies to resolve issues on a variety of people and HR process related topics. This role also assumes lead responsibility for workplace investigations and represents the HR Operations perspective on global project teams.

 

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 1+ years of experience conducting workplace investigations
  • 3+ years of experience coaching employees including managers on HR policy and processes
  • Knowledgeable on employee relations standard processes
  • Knowledgeable on employment laws and HR trends
  • Strong listening, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills in both French and English
  • HR process improvement project experience
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Can maintain confidentiality of sensitive data
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Highly motivated and self-directed
  • Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in time-sensitive situations
