Description
The Field Service Technician provides on-site installation, inspection, repair, troubleshooting and rebuilding of field-installed equipment located at customer sites. The position involves frequent travel throughout eastern Canada.
Responsibilities may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:
- Installing and commissioning equipment used in sawmills and pulp and paper mills;
- Conducting inspection, repairs, and preventive maintenance work on installed equipment;
- Providing customers with technical support and training on the operation and maintenance of products sold by the company;
- Assisting in the acquisition of technical data and other information required to support the company’s business activities;
- Preparing technical and administrative reports such as service reports, time sheets, and repair and inspection records;
- Maintaining safe work practices and adhering to company, customer, and governmental safety policies and regulations;
- Travelling to customer premises throughout all eastern Canada;
- Working irregular hours, including weekends.
When selecting candidates, we will be looking for the following essential skills, abilities, and experience:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with proven troubleshooting skills;
- Three years or more of experience working in an industrial environment assembling, repairing, and/or troubleshooting industrial machinery;
- Good verbal and written communication skills, both French and English;
- Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of products;
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings and engineering specifications;
- Possession of a valid driver's license;
- Ability to travel by air and work in all regions of Canada;
- Capable to work autonomously with minimum supervision;
- Able to prioritize and organize work to meet objectives and deadlines;
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
Other valued, but non-essential skills, abilities, and experience include:
- A vocational degree in industrial mechanics or electro-mechanics;
- Experience with measurement and diagnostic tools used for troubleshooting industrial machinery;
- Knowledge of the sawmill and/or pulp mill industries, preferably with primary wood processing equipment;
- Familiarity with the operation and maintenance of wood chip producing devices such as disc chippers and chipper canters;
- Understanding of ring debarkers and their operation.
