The Opportunity

The Technical Packaging Specialist will be responsible for the technical packaging design and continuous improvement on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging solution, including promotional executions. They will also provide technical expertise in cost reduction and raw material advancements and provide technical support to purchasing, operations and sales departments. They will perform all responsibilities based on required industry regulations and customer expectations related to packaging.

What you will do
  • Manage package development requests from conception through launch. Package development includes primary, secondary and tertiary packaging designs. Owns the packaging information accuracy in customer-facing documentation (e.g. Item Agreements).
  • Responsible for qualifying packaging through line trials and various testing requirements. Leads pre and post line trial meetings.
  • Creates and maintains project timelines to support the timely execution of each project.
  • Works closely with Product Development, Sales and customers to develop new products through kick-off, development and status meetings.
  • Interface with Operations, Quality and Regulatory and Manufacturing teams.
  • Use SPC and interpret run data (average, std. deviation, range, Cpk, Ppk, etc.).
  • Create SolidWork and/or ArtiosCAD drawings used for customer specification and sign-off.
  • Conduct unit cavity data reviews and make recommendations prior to moving into production.
  • Provide technical guidance for packaging, materials, and technologies.
  • Participate actively in identifying new and improved processes that will result in reduced turnaround time of the New Product Development Process.
  • Responsible for qualifying new materials and components as part of the standard product offering.
What you will bring
  • Bachelor’s or DEP degree in Packaging Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • 10 years in proven package development project work/quality experience, preferably in cosmetics, consumer goods or related field.
  • Proficient in using MS office, SolidWorks Software, ArtiosCAD, and AutoCAD.
  • Capable of building presentations on Excel and/or PowerPoint.
  • Experience in supporting continuous improvement projects on packaging design and optimization, waste minimization.
  • Technical competency in analysing geometric objects in 2- and 3-dimensions including understanding of fill capacity, tolerances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.
  • Good communication skills, to be able to deal effectively with various levels of our organization and our suppliers.
  • Good organizational skills to manage documentation, materials, and information.
  • Strong knowledge of retail, fast moving consumer goods and manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to work independently, initiate and lead tasks within defined projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to resolve and/or escalate issues properly.
  • Has a strong continuous improvement mindset and working approach.
  • Experience with Class II and III medical device packaging and industry regulations in North America would be a plus.
