Description
The Unit Manager performs a leadership role and is responsible and accountable for the day to day clinical and operational needs of Patient Care Unit 112 Clinical Neurosciences at FMC. The position reports directly to the Patient Care Manager and is responsible for providing team leadership and organization over the activities of PCU 112 in support of the Vision, Mission and Values of Alberta Health Services. The Unit Manager will be working in close partnership with their manager and is accountable for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-centered care. The Unit Manager will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders who include patients, families, staff, and physicians across the FMC site and within the Calgary Zone.
The Unit Manager is responsible for the daily operation and supervision of professional nursing practice and support staff on PCU 112. In conjunction with the Patient Care Manager, the Unit Manager participates in budget planning; implementing and maintaining standards of practice; hiring, supervising and evaluating professional and support staff; and implementing changes to structure, processes and procedures in order to achieve improved outcomes in patient satisfaction, quality care and resource utilization.
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or other regulated health professions. Active registration with their health profession's governing body (eg. CRNA). A minimum of 5 years clinical experience in a healthcare provider role in an organization of comparable size, complexity, and diversity. A minimum of 2-3 years previous formal leadership experience required. Progressive leadership experience and skills, including demonstrated ability with decision making responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to manage change and establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Excellent communicator with strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills. Strong commitment to patient and family centered care and providing quality services. A demonstrated pattern of professional and personal development appropriate to this position.
As required.
Master’s degree preferred. Quality improvement methodology and project experience preferred. Rotation and scheduling experience preferred. Human resource management experience preferred.
