Description
The Unit Clerk at the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre is responsible for managing the flow of information between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. They also provide clerical support for staff and physicians in the Acute Care Department. The Unit Clerk reports to the Care Manager and works under limited supervision. Primary duties include managing patient appointments, coordination and booking patient transportation and communicating details to patients. Greets and directs visitors, patients, and staff. Answers, transfers or relays messages on incoming calls. Timekeeper for Acute Care staff (includes entry and running applicable reports). Assists in the distribution/posting and filing of written information on the unit. Prepares and updates assignment sheets as required. Restocking/reordering non-stock items for Acute Care. Other related duties include, but are not limited to hand hygiene audits, relief scheduling, maintaining the electronic/downtime health records.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
As Required.
Connect Care training. Prior Unit Clerk experience in a rural health care setting serving the public preferred. Pharmacy transcription experience. Medical terminology. Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications required with experience of Connect Care, NetCare, I/Request, e-People Timekeeping, and the Oracle ordering system. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills.
