This role is a member of the inter-professional health care team supporting patients and families attending the Neurosciences portfolio. This position is primarily responsible for scheduling patient appointments and procedures in collaboration with other members of the inter-professional health care team, including the patient and their family. This position supports the EMG/Neuromuscular and Autonomic Referrals and bookings within the Neurosciences portfolio and the wider KEC site. Duties include, but are not limited to: Room Booking allocations. Reviewing referrals, booking patients in, answering phones, confirming appointments, clerical duties. Communication with the wider team including RNs, Physicians and management. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will showcase adaptability in managing workflow, exercising discretion, and prioritizing tasks in a sensitive, confidential, and timely manner.

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. Knowledge of and comfort with computer applications such as Microsoft Office. Ability to work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team. Excellent organization skills, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to handle and balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities and readjust daily schedule on short notice. Must be able to meet physical demands of the role which may include long periods of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, pulling and pushing and bending. This role involves repetitive tasks when using telephone and/or computer for work-related duties. The successful candidate will demonstrate flexible weekday availability and the ability to accept shifts on both a short-notice and pre-scheduled basis to support operational needs.

Minimum of one year previous clerical experience in a ambulatory health care setting preferred within the past two years. Experience with Connect Care. Basic Cardiac Life Support.
