Description
The Acute Geriatric Unit (AGU) at the RGH provides comprehensive care to frail older adults with complex medical needs requiring rehabilitation in an acute care setting. The Acute Geriatric Unit uses a CoAct model and has a strong team environment consisting of Nurses, Physicians, Allied Health professionals and Support Workers. AGU staff can be expected to work on both Unit 57 and Unit 58. As the successful candidate you will demonstrate: communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with the interdisciplinary team; decision making, problem solving, and critical thinking skills; patient advocacy; principles of patient and family centered care; time management and prioritization skills; interpersonal conflict resolution skills and to foster a positive environment with respect for each other, patients and families.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Unit Clerk student experience in either Urban Hospital/ambulatory setting or community rehabilitation facility OR long-term care facility (within last 18 months) - please indicate details in attached resume/job profile. Proficient in using Microsoft Products (Word, Excel). Has a positive attitude and sets a professional tone at the desk. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including but not limited to, walking, bending, lifting, standing, and sitting for extended periods (ability to lift up to 25lbs). Must have excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively. Demonstrated ability to cope with frequent interruptions and work under pressure within a stressful environment required. Demonstrated ability to incorporate Patient Family Centered Care elements into practice. Current, frequent experience working with geriatric patients and their families (including patients with cognitive impairment and dementia).
Previous Unit Clerk experience (within last 18 months) in acute care hospital inpatient/Operating Room/Ambulatory Clinic/Emergency setting OR community rehabilitation facility OR long-term care facility. Previous experience (within last 18 months) working with the Calgary zone acute care hospital computer program Connect Care -Epic.
