Description
Reporting to the Unit Manager for Pediatric Ambulatory Care, this position is a frontline position that provides administrative support for the Stollery Child Health Ambulatory clinic located at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The successful incumbent is responsible for coordination of various office duties including day-to-day correspondence, creation/updating of instructional manuals, checking patients in, verifying patient information, scheduling appointments in Connect Care, copying, faxing, scanning, ordering office supplies, providing admin support to the clinic and staff, and interacting appropriately with internal/external contacts. Cross training to other ambulatory units will be required. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work under pressure as daily work activities can change depending on the priority of the clinic. The successful candidate will require excellent communication skills, collaborating effectively with others and be able to work in a team environment. Other responsibilities include successfully completing projects under tight timelines and with frequent interruptions.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Minimum of Grade 12 with successful completion of Post-Secondary Secretarial/Unit Clerk training course with Medical terminology required. One year of recent Pediatric acute and/or Pediatric Ambulatory care experience is required. Proficiency with medical terminology and strong computer and typing skills required. Experience with Microsoft office, excel database and Connect Care (Electronic Medical records) required Current BCLS-HCP is required Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 Ibs. Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time. Strong communication skills with a courteous and pleasant front desk reception/telephone manner are desired when working with the public. Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure with minimal supervision in a complex, busy environment. The Stollery Children’s hospital and the Ambulatory clinic’s provide Family Centered Care, and it is expected that all employees support this model of care.
