Description
Reporting to the Clinic Manager, the Unit Clerk provides essential clerical support and ensures the efficient flow of information within the high-volume, fast-paced ambulatory treatment areas of the 1C3 Medical Outpatient Unit (MOU) at WMC and 3A Adult Day Medicine (ADM) at KEC. As the first point of contact for patients, families and healthcare team members, the Unit Clerk plays a key role in delivering a high standard of customer service and interpersonal communication. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate program resources to meet the needs of the patients referred for treatment. The incumbent will act as the primary liaison for patients, families, physicians, social workers, and external agencies. The Unit Clerk must be able to manage patient information and documentation with accuracy and confidentiality. Must be able to demonstrate confidentiality, flexibility, initiative and professionalism in a dynamic healthcare environment.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Within 2 years of recent experience in a similar administrative role, specifically within the last year, in a high-volume ambulatory clinic setting. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel. Extensive experience with Connect Care informatics system, having held roles such as Schegistrar. Demonstrated strong multi-tasking, conflict resolution, and conflict management skills in dynamic clinical settings. Capable of independently completing tasks with minimal supervision; currently the sole administrative support in a busy clinic environment. Ability to sustain prolonged computer work, maintaining focus and accuracy over extended periods. Holds current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
