Description
The Unit Clerk is responsible for managing the flow of information and providing clerical support to staff and physicians at Claresholm General Hospital for acute care, emergency and outpatients. The Unit Clerk in this busy rural setting is often the first point of contact for most patients and public entering the facility assisting with wayfinding and patient flow. Patient and visitor Covid-19 screening duties is a requirement of the position. Primary duties include patient registration, managing patient appointments, coordination and booking patient transportation, answering nurse calls- communicating patient needs to the nursing team, and maintaining the electronic/downtime health records. Other related duties include, but are not limited to, hand hygiene audits, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) coaching, cleaning and restocking ER exam rooms, relief scheduling, restocking/reordering/dispersing supplies, and updating signage. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required as is a commitment to Patient and Family Centered Care principles and team collaboration. The unit clerk must have a strong understanding and appreciation of the delivery of care to diverse acute care, outpatients and ER patients to effectively support the rural team. The Unit Clerk will demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads, manage time and prioritize effectively. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and problem-solving skills are essential. A commitment to professional development and promoting a positive work environment is valued. Preceptoring and/or mentoring student placements and less experienced staff may be required.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
Recognized Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program required. Experienced using Clinical Information Systems (CIS) (such as Connect Care) within the last year. Current BLS certification.
Rural acute and/or rural emergency department experience within the last 2 years preferred.
