Description
Located In the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, Unit 4 West Women’s Operating Room and Recovery Room provides primarily gynecological and obstetrical services, as elective and emergency procedures. Working in critical care setting, the Unit Clerk functions as a receptionist in a fast-paced nursing unit. The successful incumbent acts as a central source of information relating to patient activities including booking emergency procedures, requesting patient transport and case carts, ordering blood and blood products, specimen management, patient documentation uploading and other Connect Care tasks. The Unit Clerk provides clerical support including answering the phone, communicating with physicians and offices, payroll and timecard processing, and unit staffing. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients, and visitors.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.
A Unit Clerk Course (including practicum) from a recognized post secondary institution is required. A recognized course in Medical Terminology is required. Connect Care training are required. Basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) is required. Training with ESP and payroll is required. Exceptional communication and organizational skills are required.
Current or previous acute or critical care unit clerk experience is preferred. Preference given to candidate with previous Operating Room Unit Clerk experience. Completion of post-secondary education (e.g. course(s) in business administration, medical office assistant), or other related fields is preferred. Gynecology and/or Women’s health experience is preferred.
